The original Valentine’s holiday was known as the festival of Lupercalia. Lupercalia was an ancient, annual pre-Roman festival which traditionally took place between February 13th – 15th. The festival was held to banish evil spirits, purify the city of Rome and promote fertility. Re: the fertility theme of this holiday, unmarried men and women were matched by lottery. Centuries passed and the Church didn’t approve of such pastoral pursuits and replaced the festival with the observance of the martyred St. Valentine. But for my purposes, this holiday is about Me and you will become my Valentine slave! This means you will become a mindless robo-slave!
